The Early Wisconsin Regional Art Collection was originally established to preserve
the rich heritage of Wisconsin art dating from the early 1800s through 1950. Currently,
we are striving to become Wisconsin’s Regional Art Museum and expand our collection
from early Native American works through the present.
At present our collection holds approximately 1800 Wisconsin works of art, supported
by the Wisconsin Art Archive which contains approximately 6000 files on Wisconsin
artists and related information. The figure of 1800 contains about 1110 works on
paper including 450 prints, 470 drawings, 115 watercolors and about 75 large photographs.
Installed chronologically with one gallery reserved for works on paper, visitors
can trace the history and development of Wisconsin art from white settlement in
the state from the early 1800s to the 1950s. Notable artists on display include:
Henry Vianden, H.H. Bennett, Alexander Marquis, Frank Enders, Edward Steichen, John
Fery, George Raab, Vinnie Ream Hoxie, Helen Farnsworth Mears, Richard Lorenz, George
Mann Neidecken, Brooks Stevens, Francesco Spicuzza, Owen Gromme, Ruth Grotenrath,
