August 18, 2017
Return to press releases

What: In celebration of national Grandparent’s Day, the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) will welcome Cedarburg author Barbara Joosse, who has written nearly 50 children’s books. Her latest book released in August, Better Together: A Book of Family, is co-authored with her daughter Anneke Lisberg. The book will inspire the theme for the Studio Saturday art making and Joosee will offer a book reading and signing. Cider and doughnuts will be served.

When: Saturday, September 9, 2017

11:00-2:00: Art Making Inspired by Better Together: A Book of Family
12:30-1:00: Book Reading and Signing by Barbara Joosse

Where: Museum of Wisconsin Art, 205 Veterans Avenue, West Bend, Wisconsin 53095

Cost: Free event for MOWA members. Annual memberships start at $12 and can be purchased upon arrival. The book is now available for purchase in the MOWA Shop for $14.95.

Who Should Attend:
Children and adults of all ages, in particular, multi-generational families, grandparents with grandchildren, students, parents, community members, children’s book lovers, readers, and artists.

About the Book: In Better Together: A Book of Family, each spread starts with a single animal, all alone. Then a gatefold opens to reveal that the single animal is actually one of many animals working together to comfort, feed, and protect one another. At the end, we see how human families come together in similar ways to care for their little ones. Careful readers will be delighted to see that every animal mentioned in the book is hidden somewhere in the last image. The final spread offers interesting facts about the animals in the book, including the collective nouns for each. Jared Andrew Schorr’s bright, lively cut-paper illustrations and an unexpected freshness round out a very satisfying package.
