Spend some quality time with your toddler and let their creativity loose at the art museum! Your little artist will explore the wonders of shape, line, texture, form and design while developing manual dexterity and project development. Limit of two children per adult. Supplies are included. Garden Art

Feats of Clay: Ceramics for Kids (CLASS FULL)

Starting early from mud pies to sand castles, kids have a connection with clay. We will explore shape, texture and form molded from earth. This course will allow students to develop their connection to clay through exploration of various hand-building techniques. Students will create and glaze finish ceramic work that is functional, sculptural or both. Supplies are included.

Learning to Draw What You See (CLASS FULL)

Give your child this unique opportunity to work with professional artist, Eriks Johnson, and learn new techniques for expressing ideas on paper. Students will work with charcoal and graphite and be introduced to the techniques of perspective, value and line. A range of subjects will be drawn including still life and portraiture. Under the Sea

Imagine a world under the sea and create unique clay sculptures to reflect the elements of your own personal seascape. From seashells to sea anemones, students will use the basic hand-building techniques to create sculpture inspired by the ocean and its inhabitants.

Meet the Marrs

Working in the museum galleries, students will learn painting techniques using the MWA’s Carl von Marr collection as visual resources. Students will create preliminary drawings and learn how to transfer this work to canvas and begin a painting.

See, Scrape, and Squish

Learn a variety of techniques for making monoprints, a printmaking style that includes all the different ways of pressing a one-of-a-kind image onto paper. Make greeting cards, signs for your room, posters and more by squishing ink between surfaces in several different ways.

Mask Making Magic

What is more transformative than putting on a mask of your own making? Students will build molds out of clay, paper mache and painted decoration. Students will be encouraged to pick a subject for their masks that has special significance to them. Class will conclude with a Mask Parade on the museum grounds. Supplies are included.

Ceramic Mosiacs (CLASS FULL)

Mosaic art is a fun way to make a 2-D piece of art that’s technique has been in use for over 4,000 years. Come and introduce yourself to the art of tile mosaics. Students will make up their own designs and create unique tiles using clay. These tiles will be assembled into a mosaic. Students will be encouraged to share the completed mosaics and hang them up at home for all of the family to see.

Exploring Personal Narrative with Art

Doing the Laundry: A Classical Approach to Drawing Drapery and Fabric Folds
Mondays, July 12 – August 16

Ever wished you could capture the shine of satin or the rough wrinkles of linen? Learn how to render fabrics in a realistic manner by viewing different folds and practicing them as the main subject. The seven drapery folds identified during the Renaissance will be reviewed and practiced. A supply list will be sent with your confirmation.

Portrait Painting

Students will work from a live clothed model on an extended pose. Students will learn drawing skills to create a likeness of the sitter and learn how to apply the working material by using various drawing tools. Observational Painting with Emphasis on Landscape and Still Life

Students will strengthen their understanding of color mixing and theory while improving their skills in painting the three dimensional world and expanding their ability to manipulate acrylic paint. Classroom discussion will explore the creation of composition, the work of significant artists, as well as art theory. All skill levels welcome. JEANNE AZOFF has been an elementary and middle school art teacher for 22 years. She is currently teaching at Friess Lake School in Hubertus. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. Jeanne owns and operates the ArtHouse Studio & Classroom in Saukville, WI.
RODGER BECHTOLD trained at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1984-1986. In 1993 he studied with painter Wolf Kahn at The Masters Art Program at the Santa Fe Institute of Fine Arts in New Mexico. Bechtold works in and teaches landscape painting. He exhibits in seven galleries across the county, including the Tory Folliard Gallery in Milwaukee. For more info visit

BARBARA FOSTER graduated with honors from Alverno College, receiving her BA in Art Therapy in 2008. Currently she is the art instructor for Donna Lexa Community Art Center in West Bend, teaching art classes for people with disabilities. She is also employed as a line therapist for children with autism through Integrated Development Services.
SHARON GIESFELDT VAN RUISWY is a fine arts and art history instructor at UW- Parkside. She has a BFA in Fibers and MA in Art/Architectural History both from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. With a background in printmaking and fibers, making books was a natural choice to bring together all interests in black and white images, letterforms, text, content and illustrations.
REBECCA GROVER is a graduate of UW-Milwaukee with B.F.A.'s in both Art Education and Painting and Drawing.
ERIKS JOHNSON received his BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and MFA from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He also teaches in various capacities at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Milwaukee Art Museum, Sharon Wilson Arts Center, and Artists Working in Education.
TIFFANY KNOPOW received her BFA in Printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Knopow has an active exhibition record including shows in the United States and South America. She was one of UW-Milwaukee's nominees for the 2007 National Dedalus Foundation Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and received a Layton Fellowship from UW-Milwaukee in 2008.
STEVE OHLRICH is an artist who received training in Classical Realism at The School of Representational Art in Chicago. His work includes realistic figurative works, portraits, still life and creative compositions. He is an instructor at The School of Representational Art, Kewaunee Academy of Fine Arts, and also teaches at public art centers and in the homes of individual art students.
ERIN PAASCH recently received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She also teaches at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.
JOHN PRITCHARD holds a MFA in ceramics from Kansas State University. He also studied clay at Lake Placid (N.Y.) School for Music, Drama and Art.
RON SACHSE is a retired art educator and a favorite MWA instructor among students.
ANDEE WARREN received her BA from the University of Southern Maine. She is the proprietor of Cedarburg Pottery.
STACEY WILLIAMS-NG has been actively drawing and painting since her early childhood in Memphis, Tenn. She pursued part of her fine art (BFA) studies in France, at the Université de Haute Bretagne, and taught at the LaSalle College of Art (Singapore). More recently she has guest-lectured at UWM and MIAD. Stacey is currently an artist-in-residence at RedLine Milwaukee, and is working on a series in which reconstructed and layered images reflect on the role of memory in family storytelling.
