On both a formal and conceptual level, the border is the distinguishing feature of Charles Munch's work. His paintings since 1980 are marked by strong, graphic lines, which delimit figures while initiating the chromatic contrast between foreground and background. Thematically, Munch's work explores moments of overlap between human civilization and untamed nature. In acknowledgment of the central role played by liminal spaces in Munch's art, this career-spanning retrospective takes as its title, The Line Between.
