In January 2010, the MWA reinstalled its Permanent Collection galleries on the Museum’s
lower level. Hung chronologically, it tells the story of Wisconsin art from the
first itinerant artists in the 1830s through to the contemporary scene. Special
groups include: Early Wisconsin Artists 1830s – 1880s, Milwaukee’s Panorama Painters
1880-1920, Early 20th Century Wisconsin Artists 1900-1915, Wisconsin Regionalists,
Wisconsin Social Realists, Wisconsin Wildlife Artists, Wisconsin Regional Art Program/Artists
Association 1930s – present, Wisconsin WPA Projects 1933-1943, Wisconsin Biomorphic
Artists, Wisconsin Self-Taught artists and late 20th Century artists. Each gallery
features information folders to inform visitors of the biographies of the dozens
of artists on display.
This exhibition will be up through 2012.
