Renee Nielsen Engebretson and James E. Engebretson
Renee was born 1960 in St. Paul, MN and James was born 1944 in Baldwin, WI
They reside in Hudson, Wisconsin

Partners in life and in a collaborative art process, Renee and James Engebretson create nature inspired glass works. James shapes vessels with layers of clear and colored glass while Renee fashions the surface designs. Then James sandblasts through the clear glass to expose the carved design in the underlying colored layer. Influenced by the plants and wildlife surrounding their rural home and studio in Hudson, Wisconsin, the couple has worked together for more than twenty years producing unique glass pieces that have won international recognition.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, James has been a professor of Art at the University for thirty-two years. He earned an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1973. Renee also studied at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls and received a BFA in 1973. She conducted independent research in Europe in 1981, 1999, 2001, and continues her education every year in workshops nationally. The Engebretsons are members of the Wisconsin Designer Crafts Council and the Wisconsin Regional Artist Association.
