Biography

Robert Lahmann

Born 1922

Resides in Milwaukee, WI

Robert Lahmann graduated from Layton School of Art of Milwaukee in 1949, but began his career as a painter, sculptor, stained glass artist and art teacher in 1945.  In addition he attended the American Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago and Shrivenham University in England.  He also took private lessons from Gaetano Busalacchi for nine years.

Lahmann resided in Hartland, Wisconsin for most of his painting career.  He has had various jobs during his lifetime including a sculptor at the Milwaukee County Zoo in 1960 and also in a stained glass studio in 1962.  He taught private art lessons to both adults and children in Delafield and Pewaukee from 1962 to 1964.  He is now retired and resides in Milwaukee.

Through the use of careful blending and attention to light and shadow, Lahmann’s impressionistic oil paintings of rural and city scenes evoke a sense of childhood memory.  He works on-site from observation, never from photographs.

Lahmann was a member of the League of Milwaukee artists and the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association and won the Aaron Bohrod Award in 1984 and 1987 for outstanding excellence in painting. He also received a variety of awards for work that was exhibited at local galleries and state and county fairs throughout Wisconsin.  His work is in the permanent collections of the Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation, St. Peter’s U.C.C. Richfield, Marquette University, Port Washington Municipal Buildings, and the Washington County Court House.
