Bloomin' Holidays

Thank you for joining us for a weekend of reflection on ideas of home, sanctuary, and mental health through the ephemeral beauty of flowers. This year's event was aptly named Floral Sanctuary. Milwaukee artist Gabrielle Tesfaye transformed the museum into a large-scale outdoor art installation using animated video projection—capturing the floral notes of Bloomin' Holidays combined with inspiration from her multicultural heritage.

Tesfaye is an interdisciplinary artist whose art and globe-trotting lifestyle demonstrates her own multicultural experience as the daughter of an Ethiopian father and mixed-heritage Jamaican mother. She blends elements of the African diaspora, Afro-futurism, and ancient puppetry practices to spin tales about identity and belonging that have won her international acclaim in publications such as Vogue.
