Pop Up MOWA: High | Low | Middle
Friday, April 24, 2015
On April 24 attendees were treated to an eclectic multimedia installation featuring detritus collected along the journey (think tire treads and a beautiful old log found in the Northwoods), photographs and video, quotes and questions, matchbooks and posters from Wisconsin days past, note-filled maps detailing the frenetic nature of the journey, and more. While no definitive conclusion was reached regarding the status of a middle culture, the lively discussion that erupted in the exhibition space at UW-Milwaukee’s Kenilworth Square East building sparked an ongoing contemplation of the current state of art in Wisconsin and beyond.
MOWA “popped up” on Milwaukee’s East Side on the evening of Friday, April 24 for a one-night-only exhibition that pondered the existence of a middle between high and low art. High | Low | Middle was the brainchild of four artists—Wisconsin native Scott Zieher, Badger State transplant Shane McAdams, and visitors Zack Rafuls and Michael Womack—who trekked across the state during the preceding week, trailer in tow.
