Artist
Fred Stonehouse
Milwaukee 1960
Internationally known Neo-Surrealist painter Stonehouse has had numerous gallery and museum exhibitions in the United States and also in Mexico, Holland, Italy, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. He is also an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His work is sophisticated and precisely executed. Enigmatic imagery reflects a deeply personal mythology blending religious imagery with biomorphic forms and a place-specific feeling he derives from the Wisconsin marshland. Stonehouse believes that “Everyone is a secret Surrealist in their dreams.” Stonehouse received his BFA in 1982 from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
