MOWA offers a creative and inspiring space for your family. A variety of experiences from drop-in art-making activities to family workshops are available.

Second Saturday

All ages

Drop-in on the second Saturday, 10:00–2:00

Second Saturday is a lively monthly event that turns the entire museum into a destination for creative experiences. Families can explore the museum, participate in drop-in art-making, live entertainment, gallery activities, and more. Every month offers something new! Second Saturday takes place on the second Saturday of each month, drop in 10:00–2:00. Free for Members. Second Saturday is sponsored by the Leola Culver Family Foundation.

MOMENTARY MASTERPIECES | AUGUST 10
Make ephemeral art projects inspired by MOWA’s annual Art & Chalk Fest.

PATTERN PLAY | SEPTEMBER 14
Explore printmaking, weaving, and painting as you create your own patterned masterpieces inspired by Wisconsin artists.

WOVEN WORLD | OCTOBER 12
Discover the history and tradition of weaving as you engage in a series of weaving activities inspired by Ho-Chunk black ash basketry and Wisconsin fiber artists.

Mini Makers

Children five and under

Drop in on the last Wednesday, 10:00–12:00

It’s never too early to foster creativity. Toddlers and caregivers explore art together in this monthly program. Each drop-in session is themed with new forms of art-making and self-guided gallery activities. Drop in 10:00–12:00. Recommended for children ages five and under. Free for Members.

OVER AND UNDER | AUGUST 28
Strengthen fine motor skills and pattern recognition through a series of toddler-friendly weaving activities inspired by Ho-Chunk black ash basketry.

LIGHT AND SHADOWS | SEPTEMBER 28
Engage your senses while casting shadows and exploring light.

Create texture rubbings and stamped art using natural materials.

Art & Chalk Fest

All Ages

August 16–17

This FREE, outdoor, family friendly live arts festival is set amidst the museum’s four-acre campus and features artists from the Wisconsin arts community. Art & Chalk Fest is recognized nationally for its competitive live chalk art displays, art-making demonstrations, live music, and plenty to eat and drink.
