Bicultural Yi spent his first eleven years in Seoul before moving with his family to the United States. His father, a landscape artist, drew with ink in an Asian manner but painted in oil on canvas in a Western style. Yi likewise blends traditions as he works across artistic disciplines and periods. He has exhibited widely in the United States and in Asia and Europe. His numerous awards include Milwaukee Artist of the Year in 2006, and his work has been reviewed in Artforum magazine.
