Rudy Rotter

Milwaukee 1913 — 2001 Manitowoc

Rotter, a dentist, was a self-taught sculptor who created literally thousands of mostly Biblical figures and scenes in wood and mixed media. After he retired from his dental practice at age seventy-four, he devoted his next fourteen years full-time to his art, filling three floors of his warehouse studio. He used anything and everything—carving when the block of wood permitted, assembling scraps of fur, linoleum, paper, and old photographs. He was passionate and eccentric in his endeavors. His work was exhibited in Wisconsin and at both the Intuit Art Fair and the Outsider Art Fair in New York
