Champaign, Illinois 1962
Trenchard received her BFA from Illinois State University in 1984. Her work has been shown across the country and is in many Wisconsin collections. International experience includes teaching at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, establishment of Bangkok Glass, the first hot glass school in Southeast Asia, and speaking at the Glass Art Society conference in Venice. Her glass sculptures are painterly, filled with portraits and cultural references; her paintings have a luminosity and palette that reflect her work in glass. Trenchard and her husband, artist Jeremy Popelka, operate Popelka Trenchard Glass studio and gallery in Door County, Wisconsin.
Falling Apart: Emmy Hennings
When Stephanie Trenchard began working in glass in 1998, the demographics of glass art were very different from those encountered thirty years earlier. Although more women than ever were working in the industry, Trenchard was astounded to see that educational materials still extolled the accomplishments of male artists. She subsequently has devoted her career to documenting women’s contributions to the arts.
