Join MOWA for an Artist Talk with Wisconsin-based artist Heidi Parkes at 6:00 at MOWA | DTN inside Saint Kate–The Arts Hotel in downtown Milwaukee. In this talk, Parkes will discuss the making of Inviting Abundance, an exhibition shaped by a family tradition of quilting. Continuing this innate art form, Parkes’s artistic practice incorporates textiles from the domestic realm, family heirlooms, and found fabric materials with a sense of sentiment. Feelings, places, or themes fuel her creative process; Parkes then reconstructs her world, working from multiple viewpoints and time periods. The result is a collaged layering of material and meaning—an inner dialogue made visible.
