Beyond Geography: Finding Place through Paj Ntaub
Beyond Geography: Finding Place through Paj Ntaub
When cultural knowledge is preserved through oral traditions and material forms like music or objects, place is no longer defined by boundaries or borders. It becomes embedded into where culture is made, traditions and histories are kept, and identities are shaped over time. In this lecture, Pachia Lucy Vang, HMong artist and curator, will share how a traditional HMong textile practice, paj ntaub or “flower cloth,” functions as a portable record that has stayed with families through war, migration, and resettlement, and now serves as a practice that holds memory while continuing to evolve across time, place, and community.
