About the Exhibition

January 1–March 17, 2019

MOWA | West Bend

Inspired by his 2018 artist-in-residence experience in Luxembourg made possible by Ansay Development Corporation and MOWA, Chris Maddox’s new works predominantly contain the red, white, and blue of the United States and Luxembourg flags.

Visually, his works mix representations of architecture, art, currency, religion, and economic symbols to pay homage to the German cultural theorist and historian Aby Warburg, whose 1,000-image Mnemosyne Atlas was designed to generate a sense of understanding of the depth and breadth of the human condition.
