Nestled deep in Wisconsin’s lush Kettle Moraine, Daniel Gerhartz’s studio is filled with grand manner painting reminiscent of the Gilded Age, where props and luxurious fabrics await the next model.
Classically trained Gerhartz possesses effortless technical facility and a deep, abiding kinship to traditional portraiture. The thirty-one paintings in this first major retrospective are not portraits per se but rather vignettes of maternal love, childhood simplicity, or grandfatherly affection.
