Madison-based artist John Hitchcock grew up on Comanche Tribal Lands in Oklahoma. His biggest and boldest installation to date is inspired by the Native American stories and visual traditions of his youth and the long history of social and political commentary embedded within the discipline of printmaking. Hitchcock’s work explores relationships of community, land, and culture. National Sanctuary addresses safety, security, and protection, not just of country, but the environment.
