Steven Foster’s “Steve Lacy Series” and Tomiko Jones’s “A Place to Rest” make the installation as intrinsic to the art as the content.

Foster’s series is inspired by the music of the uncompromising soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy (1934–2004), whose improvisations explore silence and repetition to evoke animals and abstractions. Foster’s photographs comprise a graphic score intended for musical interpretation. Jones’s photographs—of every bed she has slept in—document her nomadic life as an artist on the go. Image sizes and intervals syncopate her subjective impression of the importance of her dwellings.
