Audacious art by 10 artists

Ten at Ten kicks off the tenth anniversary year of MOWA’s modernist mothership. To commemorate this special occasion, the curatorial staff has selected ten artists whose vision and vitality reflect MOWA’s commitment to supporting emerging artists and exhibiting audacious art.
The Ten are Claire Kellesvig, Nykoli Koslow, Meg Lionel Murphy, Guzzo Pinc, Pranav Sood, Brennen Steines, Gabrielle Tesfaye, Johanna Winters, Lindsey T. Yeager, and Eduardo Zavala. Some are newly minted MFAs; others are showing work not previously exhibited. Media range widely, from traditional materials such as oil on canvas and video installation to outré experiments with calcium carbonate, larger-than-life paper puppets, and papier-mâché human appendages.
The similarly sweeping subject matter reveals the anxieties, aspirations, and eccentricities of Millennials and Zoomers. The work addresses issues such as domestic violence, gender identity, shame and pleasure in the aging female body, and the environment in the Age of Anthropocene. These social and ethical explorations are interspersed with nonobjective compositions that delight in pure color and form.
Ten at Ten greets Wisconsin’s most exciting new artists at the beginning of their careers. The exhibition brings together an extraordinary group of artists, speakers, and a collaborative curatorial team from the vanguard of Wisconsin’s vibrant art scene. MOWA is delighted to introduce these ten up-and-coming artists to a wider audience.
