MOWA continues an ongoing partnership with Art Bridges, a foundation established by Alice Walton in conjunction with the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AR. In an effort to expand access to American art, Art Bridges provides loans from its growing permanent collection to participating institutions, along with financial support for initiatives that connect local audiences and communities.

MOWA will have a painting by Georgia O’Keeffe on view for extended period of time. O’Keeffe was a significant Modernist painter best known for her abstracted images of natural subjects including florals, animal bones, and landscapes. Although born in Wisconsin, O’Keeffe was captivated by the landscape of the southwest from her earliest trip in 1929. By 1949, she moved permanently to New Mexico, dividing her time between her homes at Ghost Ranch and Abiquiú. From 1948 to 1956, O’Keeffe painted a series of views from the patio of her Abiquiú home, capturing the austere desert landscape, strikingly blue sky, and dramatic shadows caused by the intense southwestern sunshine. In the Patio IX, is a stark departure from others in this series because of the ambiguous abstraction, referencing either mountains or a corner of her patio.
