About Art Bridges

MOWA continues an ongoing partnership with Art Bridges, a foundation established by Alice Walton in conjunction with the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AR. In an effort to expand access to American art, Art Bridges provides loans from its growing permanent collection to participating institutions, along with financial support for initiatives that connect local audiences and communities.

A sculpture by Milwaukee-born mixed media artist vanessa german, Black Girl on Skateboard Going Where She’s Got to Go to Do What She’s Got to Do and It Might Not Have Anything to Do With You, Ever, taps into themes of Black power, spirituality, mysticism, and feminism as a means to repair and reshape disrupted systems, spaces, and connections. Modeled on Congolese sculptures and folk-art practices, this work is a profusion of all things yellow—yellow bird figurines, yellow paper flowers, yellow decorative lemons, even a yellow skateboard.
